| In January, I visited Seoul for the first time to meet with the members of BTS to build our partnered channel for SiriusXM, BTS Radio. Like many around the world, their return from military enlistment was a moment I’ve been patiently waiting for the past few years. From the warm embraces of reuniting with JK and SUGA to Jin letting me know he still hangs the keychain I gifted him on his bag and chatting LV with j-hope, each moment we shared together was an valuable memory. While I was there, I had the chance to listen to their new album and being one of the first people in the world to listen to their album, RM asked me what I thought of ‘SWIM’. I let them know that it’s a very impressive song and that I believe they have a hit on their hands. RM’s response was simply “ok good, I’m relieved”. I also finally got the chance to tell Jimin how incredible his solo albums are and how much his music impacted our K-Pop channel. Leading up to this photo, I said, it’s been too long, I don’t remember you guys being this tall… to V’s response of “no, not tall at all” before he crouched for this photo. Next time I’ll be sure to wear platforms. This channel is a project that BTS and I along with the HYBE team and my team at SiriusXM built together for ARMY. | BTS are back. What an honor to have all seven members reunite on the Tonight Show for their big comeback. It was such an exciting day to finally have RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook back on the show, especially as one of the very first appearances in the world back as a group. Over the last several years, I read countless comments from ARMY who were hoping for a complete blue wall photo. Not just anticipating the literal photo, but what it would mean more symbolically. OT7. After all these years, the wait is finally over. It was such a busy day for the group’s appearance. They were booked solid, starting with a very early morning performances of “2.0” and “Swim.” Then back at 30 Rock for a “fan surprise,” to filming with our digital team, and then finally the big show itself, with three interview segments. When we first met to do the blue wall photos, I welcomed the members and said how excited I was to have them all back on the show. I always try to greet guests before we make these photos. It’s my way of trying to convey that I want to take care of them. RM surprised me by making a kind comment in return. I should say it was of note because normally it’s me chatting up talent to try and make them feel comfortable, and now it was happening in reverse. I mention this detail because it stood out as an example of effortless kindness ond reciprocity, and in turn leadership, from RM. This exchange set the dynamic for the shoot. We did a few quick poses. Then, just before the show, I caught the group for two more photos, including this one. Big congratulations to BTS for their return and for ARIRANG, which has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. An incredible achievement. And all joy and love to ARMY as well, I am so happy for you. You have waited so long for this moment. Thank you so much to all the members for their time and graciousness. I hope everyone will be back one day. When that day comes, we’ll do another blue wall photo. |

| I wanted to share a fun and endearing moment from the BTS x Fallon appearance. Here’s a candid of the members reacting to the cheers of ARMY from the audience. I love all the expressions as they react to the crowd’s adoration. The interview clips on YouTube are the entire interviews, but sometimes there are bit at the beginning or end before the interview is in progress that get cut out. So in this moment where the crowd was cheering, I don’t think this moment aired, just for context. When the members first come out into the studio, they are seated Jungkook, V, RM, Jin, j-hope, SUGA and then Jimin (closest to Jimmy). They do one extra long interview segment and then, before listening to a few tracks and explaining the meaning of the songs, the members switched seats. They did a fun shuffle almost like “musical chairs” to sit in the reverse order that they were in: Jimin, j-hope, SUGA, Jin, RM, V, and Jungkook now closest to Jimmy. In between segments during a commercial break, at one point ARMY is cheering for BTS and all the members looked out. I love that in this photo it feels like you can see the different personality of each member in how they are enjoying the moment. j-hope dancing (perfect). RM looking like a proud dad. V looking very excited to see ARMY. And so on. Each reaction and expression feel so individual as a candid moment. What do you see in their expressions? I’ve posted these photos before, these moments of guests on the couch in the moment the audience is looking out and receiving the love of the crowd. Are you a fan of the band @bts.bighitofficial? You may have seen a teaser video last month for the band’s new album, “Arirang,” which shares its name with a beloved Korean folk song. The video alluded to the first recording ever made of that song, which is on a nearly 130-year-old wax cylinder preserved here at the Library of Congress.
The American Folklife Center has what is likely the largest collection of ethnographic cylinder recordings in the world, and it is cared for by the Library’s National Audio Visual Conservation Center. Part of that care is state-of-the-art digitization, as seen in this video.
